Do you recognize that sentence? Welcome to the club! It's a friendly formulated message from Netflix that tries to tell you "Hey man, stop watching TV! You do that for hours now. " It's the ultimate consequence of having the whole season available... or two... or three... It's the written confirmation that you are addicted to the series. Time is running by and you even don't recognize it. You force yourself to bed in the middle of the night, just to continue watching in the morning. The story must go on and not to know how is cruel. But as with any good love story, there is an end, mainly on the top of the tension while all possibilities are open. The season end is like a heart break.

I am tired of it. All of it. I hate the phase in my weekend when seasons are owning my life. I wish to watch TV sometimes and nevertheless stay independent and be able to take a break whenever I want to. Here is the deal: it is actually possible. I just switched to documentaries. Yeah I know, sounds boring. It's for old people who have nothing to lose anymore and can spare time to watch an antelope drink water for 30min. Well, no.

Here are three series that are talking serious, nevertheless catchy and you learn something for life... just in case Netflix would break down one day.

Explained

It's a small season, but regularly new episodes get added. It's like the books "For dummies" just in TV format. It highlights trending topic from K-Pop to Designer DNA in an understandable language. The short 25min are packed with facts, experts and examples. It has this light, ironic touch that catches you. You never even have heard about one of the topics? I bet with you, after that half an hour watch you will be endless curious. It took me no second to dig deeper into K-Pop.

The story of God

I always liked Morgan Freeman. For me he is a sign of quality. I can be sure the movie is good when he is the actor. In this documentary he travels to places within the US, India, Israel, Italy etc. to compare religions. In every episode he covers another detail like heaven and hell, life after death, who is god and much more. He talks to experts and believers to get first-hand information. The whole time he is not judging once but rather maintains a high level of curiosity and respect. I really like that. We live in a time where religion might not be a big part of our own life, but is a huge driver of worldwide dynamics. Understanding the basics is not the worst thing and actually - you would be surprise how incredible similar all the believes are.

Bill Nye

My newest found, but as I learned a really big thing in the US (three seasons, and growing). Bill Nye saves the world... with science. You remember chemistry and physics from school? I knew this is not my future when I nearly burned down my table with the Bunsen burner. But Bill made science accessible for the crowd. Netflix gave him a team of experts and famous people, a fancy modern lab and a burning agenda. He looks at topics like Greenhouse Effect, Robotics, Sex & Medication... All of them affect us in our daily life sooner or later, but our knowledge has gaps. This is your opportunity to learn about them easy, stylish and in a scientific manor.
